Winter romance on the Romantic Coastline
It is a nature full of variety: hikes and picnics at the beach and moors, swimming in an ice hole and relaxing under the sunshine. But also warm furnaces and candlelight, authentic local food and the scent of baked goods, woolly sweaters and socks, saunas filled with warmth and feeling, a sense of safety and happiness. We love our winter with its frozen beauty and the simple moments of comfort it brings. When the sun comes out, the entire world glistens. Swans walk along the frozen water’s edge, calling out with their unique voice. A small pygmy owl whooshes by, clutching a freshly-caught mouse in its claws. Bullfinches conquer a coastal buckthorn, devouring it as a group until it’s stripped bare. In the treetops of tall trees and amidst the reeds, flocks of bushtits flutter by like snowballs. These are the little sights and moments that provide us with comfort and a sense of satisfaction. This is how we navigate our hidden paths in nature filled with bursting silence. We gladly share these moments of the Romantic Coastline with everyone.
Epp from Surfhunt in Varbla leads us on the most romantic coastal winter hike on a sleigh. You can also enjoy a sleigh ride through ancient forest paths at Maria Farm in Tõstamaa. When the surface of the sea is frozen solid, we go on hikes, ski, stroll around and fish on the ice. Every year, romantic lantern hikes are organised in Mereküla that lead us on a coastal walk, accompanied by meals and stories by a campfire. Seikle Vabaks hikes lead us on a journey on foot over the sea ice to Manija, where we can visit Ülle. If that’s not enough, we can venture into the bog with snowshoes. At the Jõulumäe Recreation Centre, we have the option to ski in both the classic and skate style.
Winter, in its uniqueness, always offers something new, whether we seek peace and quiet or adrenaline-filled adventures.
