Oak branch

Mihkli küla, Lääneranna vald

In Mihkli, you will find an oak forest that is almost 250 years old and spreads across 90 hectares.
It is considered one of the most beautiful natural oak forests where nearly half of the trees are straight-stemmed oaks.
Good to know! There are two stories about the origin of Mihkli oak forest. According to the first, the manor owner that lived next to Mihkli rectory was jealous of his neighbour’s park and decided to outdo the pastor by planting the oak forest. However, a more likely story is that the oak forest started growing due to the small bird known as the Eurasian jay, who buries acorns for the winter, and the ones left uneaten grow into new oak trees.
