Cave Safari on the Salatsi River

Livonia Matkade’s exciting cave safari is well worth waiting for until the Estonian-Latvian border reopens, as the trip takes us to the Salatsi River in Latvia, located near the Estonian-Latvian border. On this 13-kilometer canoe trip, we’ll see the Salatsi River’s beautiful sandstone outcrops and caves. We’ll visit Kuradikoobas and the longest natural sandstone cave in the Baltics, with passages measuring over 300 meters! In addition to the cave visits, the trip includes an excursion to Kajakalju National Park and mashed potatoes cooked over a campfire.

Duration: 5–7 hours, including breaks and lunch. Distance: 13 km

Kihnu's wild nature

Come and refresh your senses on a hike through wild Kihnu with a nature guide. The hikes take you along Kihnu’s unique coastline, which visitors to the island rarely get to see. We’ll explore Kihnu’s nature, which offers different impressions and colors depending on the season. We’ll examine the plants and trees characteristic of the island, see what can be found on the sand, or what’s visible from the sea. We’ll share stories and legends about Kihnu Island. We’ll experience Kihnu with all our senses!

Duration: 1–3 hours, including breaks. Distance: 2.5–5 km, depending on the route. Option to order a packed lunch.

Paatsalu bay and Oosäär

We invite you to explore the bird-rich bay of Paatsalu. During the trip, we’ll encounter seabirds and admire the architecture of the Paatsalu summer cottage area from the sea, as well as give you a glimpse into local life. Starting in mid-July, after the nesting season, we’ll also make a stop at the unique Oosääre. The tour takes place in 8-person canoes and two-person sea kayaks, which we’ll paddle through safe coves, passing by islets teeming with birds.

The Inaccessible Nätsi-Võlla Bog

The Nätsi-Võlla Bog is Estonia’s largest intact bog; there are no boardwalks or signposts here. The bog is home to numerous bog lakes and the Salusaared islands, where traces of old settlements can still be seen.

Villages nestled among dense forests – Massiaru and Urissaare

A bus or car tour takes you to explore two small villages nestled among dense forests—Massiaru and Urissaare—both of which have a proud history. The old and imposing schoolhouse in Massiaru, which today houses the international creative center Massia, the small Orthodox wooden church in Urissaare, and the blueberry-scented garden are the places we’ll explore in more detail. We’ll end the tour in an enchanting garden, where the gracious hostess Tiina will share her garden’s plants and knowledge with us and serve delicious snacks.

The Forgotten Railroad

Did you know that decades ago, you could take a train from Pärnu to Ikla and even as far as Heinaste (Ainaži)? Come and discover this exciting journey, “Station Buildings Remember and Tell Stories,” along the narrow-gauge railway embankment—though this time, not sitting in a train car, but in your own car or on a bus. We’ll start at Timmkanali Station and make stops in front of former station buildings in Laiksaare, Massiaru, Teaste, and Orajõe. A delicious snack awaits us at the final stop in Ikla!

Adventures in the forest, by the sea, and on the river in Varbla

Surfhunt invites you to explore the beautiful nature of the Varbla area. You can choose from three options: we can go to the forest, to the seaside, or wade through the river.
On the wading trip in fishing waders, we can move upstream or downstream along the Roomu Stream through the Varbla Nature Reserve. Duration: 4 hours.

The mixed forest hike begins in the meadows of the Varbla Nature Reserve and winds through thickets, deciduous forests, heaths, and other landscapes. When the group has had their fill of the forest, they return along a path that passes through the hunting grounds of eagles, buzzards, cormorants, and other birds of prey. Duration: 3–4 hours
The hike is also suitable for adventurous children!

Beach Hike from Rannaküla to Mereäärse. The hike passes through two villages. The rocky shore alternates with coastal meadows and sandy beaches. Views of the Varbla Islets Bird Sanctuary. Duration: 3–5 hours
