Undiscovered secret beaches.
#beacheromance
The romantic Coastal Road attracts with beautiful sandy beaches and possibly the warmest sea water in Estonia. Among the beaches of the romantic Rannatee, you can find well-known beach holiday spots such as Matsi beach, Valgerand, Reiu beach, Kabli beach, Lemme beach, Ermistu lake,
However, below you will find recommendations for little-known beaches and local secret spots.
NB! People at the beach recommend choosing weather with a sea breeze for swimming, when the water is the warmest :)
Sepamaa beach
In the village of Kastna, Tõstamaa
The beaches of Tõstamaa are a unique blend of the most pristine natural shores, featuring sand, rocks, reeds, flowers, and an abundance of waterfowl. Thanks to the shallow Pärnu Bay, the sea remains shallow for a long distance, and due to the small inlets, it is often possible to enjoy the beach as early as mid-May. Since the water is shallow and warm, and the parking lot is nearby, these spots are particularly popular among families with young children.
Sepamaa is a long, wide sandy beach with a mostly sandy bottom, featuring a rest area, benches, an outdoor grill, changing cabins, and outdoor restrooms. Sepamaa Beach is located in the Kastna Nature Reserve, near the Kastna observation tower and the famous Kastna oaks.
Sutirand
In the village of Suti on the Värati Peninsula in Tõstamaa
From the town of Tõstamaa, right next to Tõstamaa Church, a green sign points along the coastal road to Suti Beach. Upon arrival, the road winds through juniper-covered pastures and well-maintained hayfields to a pebbly beach. Suti Beach features a rest area with benches, an outdoor grill, changing cabins, an outdoor restroom, and a children’s play area.
Tõhela lake
In Tõstamaa
Lake Tõhela is located just a few kilometers north of Lake Ermistu and is an ideal spot for families with young children. The lake is shallow and warm. The beach features a rest area and a playground, and visitors can enjoy the surrounding scenery from an observation tower. Like Lake Ermistu, Lake Tõhela is rich in fish, making it a favorite spot for recreational anglers as well.
Kavaru Harbor Recreation Area
We recommend this hidden gem in the charming coastal village of Kavaru Harbor as a place to relax and have a picnic. You can dip your toes in the water for a moment, but if you want to go swimming, choose another beach.
Häädemeeste beach
For those who crave true privacy—and, with a bit of luck, might find themselves on a stunning sandy beach with not a soul in sight as far as the eye can see! Reaching the beautiful sandy beach of Häädemeeste takes a bit of effort, but the result is well worth it! You can reach the beach via a small riverside path that starts near the Häädemeeste community center. The trail is about half a kilometer long and runs along the river and a historic coastal meadow where cattle and horses are still grazed today. The beach doesn’t start right at the water’s edge but is located on a higher sandbar. Locals call these sandbars “joomaks,” which emerge from the sea during warm, dry summers. To reach the joomaks, you’ll need to wade about 200 meters through knee-deep water. This stretch of water is a favorite spot for kitesurfers on windy days.
Kosmonautika beach
In the village of Penu, Häädemeeste
A legendary beach where Soviet cosmonauts and scientists once vacationed. A resort was built here for them because scientists’ measurements showed that this spot receives the least amount of rain and the most sunshine-making it the perfect summer vacation destination! Today, this beach—which was once closed to locals—is open to everyone and has become a favorite for many in the Kabli-Häädemeeste area. Access to the beach from Kosmonautika resort grounds. In addition, the KOCMOC summer café is open here, SUP boards are available for rent, and cozy cottages are offered for longer stays.
Treimani beach
You can access the Singing Sands of Treimani from across the street from the Treimani Community Center, or from near the Treimani store and the Kalbuse Vacation Home.
Heinaste beach
Ainažis, Lätis
Now let’s briefly leave Rannatee and the borders of Estonia behind and head to Latvia. The further south we go, the greater the influence of the open sea becomes, and the water is a bit cooler. In the border town of Ainaži, which local Estonians still stubbornly call Heinaste, you’ll also find a lovely sandy beach. One way to reach the beach is to combine it with a romantic walk along the historic railway embankment, which is accessible via a hiking trail right at the Estonian-Latvian border, located on the old, coastal road (from the main Via Baltica, take the first exit down to the coast—ideally starting from Häädemeeste—to see the beautiful coastal villages!)
Suarõ ninä beach
On the island of Kihnu
Suarõ ninä (Saare nina) is a historic place name on the western coast of Kihnu Island. It was where the men of Linaküla would land their large herring boats. The shallow, sandy beach was ideal for shaking herring out of the nets, as well as for drying and repairing fishing gear.
Today, people go to Suarõ ninä to walk along the seashore and watch the sunset. It is also a popular swimming spot, and Midsummer’s Eve celebrations have been held here.
Fire pits and ball courts have been set up among the junipers, along with a party area for guests of the Linaküla beach campground.
Manija beach
On the Manija island
Just across the road from the Riida tourist farm is a sandy beach where you can enjoy the pleasures of Manija Island’s coastline. In August, the area is awash with sweet wild strawberries. At the Riida tourist farm, you can pick up some limpsi and craft beer to take to the beach; if you order in advance, the hostess will, if possible, prepare a delicious lunch or dinner made with ingredients grown on Manija. If you’re planning a longer vacation, the farm also offers lodging and the full island experience!
