The beliefs, values, and stories of Tõstamaa’s ancestors are hidden in knitted patterns – these are small memories that carry forward the strength and identity of our roots.
Roosimine inlay knitting is a technique in which the main color is used to knit the right-side surface, and the pattern yarn moves in a running-stitch pattern, moving forward and backward.
At the roosimine workshop, Tõstamaa craft masters present the traditional inlay knitting technique slightly differently, using a method also used in earlier times, which is a good starting point for getting acquainted with the technique.
Beginners do not need prior craft experience. A colorful roosimine pattern is stitched onto a previously knitted small square. The completed embroidered square can be used as a decorative element on an item.
Once the work is done, it’s worth visiting Tõstamaa Manor – a magnificent historic site that tells stories of the past and invites you to walk through the manor park. Tõstamaa is a place where time stands still.
We look forward to embroidering in Tõstamaa!
