Come and discover the beauty of Tõstamaa and the spirit of our handicrafts!
A century and a half ago, women in Tõstamaa knitted gloves with fine yarn and needles. The gloves were adorned with red embroidered patterns. In this workshop, you will learn the traditional Tõstamaa handicraft technique – roosimine inlay knitting. The embroidered patterns contain the beliefs, values, and stories of our ancestors – small, patterned memories that carry forward the strength and identity of our roots.
Under the guidance of Tõstamaa’s masters, you can learn this ancient technique and knit a lovely embroidered pincushion for yourself. The knitting uses fine 1.5 mm needles and 7/2 yarn, so each stitch is created with care and attention.
Once the work is done, it’s worth visiting Tõstamaa Manor – a historic site that tells stories of bygone times and invites you to walk in the manor park. Tõstamaa is a place where time stops – come, create something with your hands, and feel how tradition gets a new life.
