CULTURE AND HISTORY
#cultureromance
The heritage of the regions along the Romantic Beach Route has been sculpted by the land and sea throughout different times in history. Castle-like manor houses, parks, pavilions and footpaths, along with other charming manor buildings, stand as cultural relics from the Baltic German era. These structures are contrasted with the cultural landscape along the Romantic Beach Route, which reflects the traditional way of life of the coastal people. These cultural landscapes have burial sites, diverse farm complexes, ancient cultural landmark stones and trees, as well as numerous churches that serve as representations of Estonia’s religious architectural heritage.
All historical buildings, village complexes, farms, captain’s residences and authentic old town centres constitute our material heritage. When combined with natural heritage sites, they serve as an everlasting window into the past. Today, all of this ancient heritage can be both observed and experienced firsthand. The museums along the Romantic Beach Route have lovingly preserved these reflections of communities of the past. People whom one could take pride in, deeds that once changed life, the culture and time before us as well as what is being created today. The museums showcase historical artefacts, dialects and written pieces that depict local life. Visiting them is like embarking on an adventure through the annals of history, as a rich and exciting narrative unfolds before you. Strong handicraft traditions have helped in the preservation of old artefacts, some of which still exist in our homes, making it possible to still experience them firsthand at museums and heritage festivals.
Our culture is diverse; it lives and evolves throughout time. It serves as our foundation and support.
